Talk pages

Every page on The Build-A-Bear Wiki has, or has the potential to have, what's called a "Talk page," which is essentially like an open bulletin board that can be commented on.

Talk pages can be accessed via the Discussion tab at the top of the page in question, including editors' user pages; for instance, at the top of this page, just next to The Build-A-Bear Wiki's icon in the corner, you will see a tab that says "Help page," and to the right of it a tab that says "Discussion." A red link indicates the Talk page hasn't been created yet, but it can be created easily by clicking the link anyways and clicking Save page. Once the Talk page has been created, you can edit it to ask your question or contribute your information by creating a heading at the bottom of the page as if it were the subject of an email (put two equals signs == == on either side of your text to format it as a heading), placing your comment underneath it, and signing your comment by placing two hyphens and four tildes (--~~~~), which will automatically fill in your Build-A-Bear Wiki username and the timestamp of when you hit "Save page" to submit your comment.

When you edit a user's personal Talk page, that user will get a notification about your comment the next time they log in. When you edit the Talk page for a normal page, such as Curly Bear or Build-A-Bear Buddies, any user watching the page will get a notification about your comment, and any user who happens to see the comment will be able to reply to it. Commenting on non-user Talk pages more or less relies on the pages having active editors watching them, so it can be less reliable than commenting on user Talk pages, but if you're more interested in contributing than in getting a response right away, we still encourage you to leave your message!

Email

On a given editor's user page, the left sidebar includes a menu of actions that can be taken in reference to that user, under the "Tools" heading. One of these actions is "Email this user." Clicking this link will open a page with text inputs for subject and message, the contents of which will be emailed to the editor at the email address associated with their account when you hit Send. Emails are more private than Talk pages, and more userfriendly for people who aren't familiar with Wiki editing, but bear in mind that an inactive editor or one who is using an old email address may not see your message to answer.
