On March 16, 2006, Build-A-Bear opened a special Workshop inside their hometown zoo, the Saint Louis Zoo in Saint Louis, Missouri. Officially called Build-A-Bear Workshop At The Zoo, Where Wild And Wonderful Friends Are Made™, this store stocked not only standard Build-A-Bear furry friends but also special friends designed just for the store.[1] Many, but not all, furry friends sold at the Zoo came with special Zoo-design tush tags.[2][3]

The Saint Louis Zoo shared many of its exclusives with the Rainforest Cafe. Over the course of its lifetime, several Zoo exclusives were also made available from the buildabear.com webstore, and some were adapted into non-zoo-exclusive versions.[citation needed] Note that for the purposes of this list, furry friends are considered Saint Louis Zoo exclusive if they could not be purchased at regular Build-A-Bear Workshop locations. As ecommerce has become a larger part of Build-A-Bear's business model, the collecting community began to view bears as location exclusive only if they were also in-store-exclusive; since most Saint Louis Zoo and Rainforest Cafe bears

Build-A-Bear Workshop At The Zoo permanently closed its doors on September 10, 2017.[4]
