Scentiments

Scentiments (stylized as SCENTiments, a play on the word "sentiments", also known as "scents") are small plastic discs that are infused with pleasant fragrances. They are one of three main types of stuffer that can be inserted into a normal-sized or giant furry friend at the Stuff Me station before it is sewn up. Scentiments are either shaped like hearts or like bear head in Build-A-Bear's logo.

The first set of Scentiments launched in summer 2012. They were originally meant to be placed in a furry friend's paw, as shown in their original webstore descriptions, but today it is common for them to be placed in the torso instead, and many fans will request a torso or back of head placement so the Scentiment can be easily smelled while hugging the bear.

Scentiment discs are heat activated, which means it can take some time for them to become smellable through a bear's fur, depending on the strength of the scent and the density of the bear's fur. Rubbing the disc on the outside of the bear before placing it inside can mitigate this, but this technique can sometimes have the unintended side effect of staining the fur or leaving a colored residue, especially on lighter colored bears. Some scents are more prone to causing this than others. Scents have variable lifespans, with some lasting 10 years or more and others seeming to fade almost immediately upon insertion, depending on the individual scent and how much it is activated by hugs and cuddles over the years.

Some pre-stuffed online exclusives cannot have scents put in them at the time of purchasing, but can have scents added later at home or in store. Scentiments cannot be purchased outside of a furry friend on most webstores or in-store in the UK, but can be purchased on their own in US stores. Not all scents were available in all regions, but there has not to date been a Scentiment that could not be purchased in the United States.

The disc is an opaque bear head shape in a shimmery warm white color. - Frosted Icing: This one does smell like vanilla icing, but a little bit too much? It honestly smells like icing you left out overnight and it got a bit stale and stiff. Very sweet, mostly a strong sugary smell with light vanilla notes. It just misses the mark a bit.

Though it rarely smells like real lavender, many fans enjoy the floral, soapy, or sweet elements it has. The disc is an opaque bear head shape in Mardi Gras purple. While some enjoy this scent, Honey is notorious for "going bad" over time; it is frequently described as smelling like feet, rotting honey, or even urine. *MODIFY SCENT DESC - Honey: This one I'm honestly not a fan of. It smells kind of like honey, but also pretty bitter and not very sweet (not that I'm expecting to smell TOO sweet, but you know what I mean?). To be fair, I have heard people describe it as smelling amazing at the time of it being available in-store and that it does apparently 'sour' in a way over time, so maybe that's what's happened? Mine doesn't smell bad it just also doesn't smell good lol. Like I said, smells 30% like honey and about 70% like a bitter, bland smell I can't put my finger on.

At its best, Pizza is described by fans as smelling like oregano, garlic, and/or cheese, or like pizza-flavored Combos; at its worst, it's described as smelling like bile or vomit. It was released in May 2016, alongside Build-A-Bear's second set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The disc is an opaque bear head shape in a cheesy safety orange color.

In the pack, Peppermint is a very strong scent with punchy methol notes, but it mellows out considerably when placed inside a bear, to the point that it is notorious for being a weak scent with little staying power. Peppermint released in late 2016, most likely alongside the release of 2016's Merry Mission collection on November 1. It has been restocked every year since its introduction as the seasonal Christmas scent and is expected to continue to restock the same way. That being said, the scent smells mostly like mints and only a bit like chocolate. When I open the packaging for it, I get hit with a big whiff of mint and then can only smell the chocolate notes when I get closer for a second smell. I'd say about 85% strong, toothpaste-y mint notes, and 15% semi-sweet chocolate notes. Comparing it to the aromabearapy scent is interesting, because the AB one smells much more authentically like chocolate mint imo. A better balance of mint notes to chocolate notes, and the mint also doesn't smell like toothpaste to me for that one. If asked for my suggestion, I wouldn't know whether to actually suggest AB over BAB since I've never actually put an AB scent in a bear and experimented with how it lasts, but for smelling sake alone the AB one is better to me.

Pumpkin Spice has restocked reliably in the United States for every Halloween seasonal release since its was first introduced, and is often slightly different depending on region, batch, or year, with some batches having more pronounced spice notes and other batches having more pronounced pumpkin or vanilla notes. It was initially released alongside the Halloween drop in September 2020. The disc is an opaque bear head shape in bright pumpkin orange. Many fans report chemical notes that remind them of sunscreen or shampoo, and others report that it smells very similar to Birthday Cake or popcorn. Coconut was released in summer 2022. 		Coffee	30890 30891 (HB)	2022	Available (limited)	A strong and relatively controversial scent. It is variously reported as smelling like caramel popcorn, coffee-flavored M&Ms, or a coffee flavored cookie, rather than like coffee or coffee beans, and it seems that the disc being heated brings out more unpleasant fragrances that can give it more of an acrid or burnt smell. Coffee was released in September 2022 as an online exclusive. The disc is an opaque bear head shape in very dark brown. Coffee is still available on the Heartbox side of the US webstore and the Heartbox side of the UK webstore.
		Blueberry	31398	2023	Available (limited)	A fruity scent that, while not smelling exactly like fresh blueberries, seems to be generally well-received by fans, who describe it as smelling like blueberry candy, artificial blueberry flavoring, (cheap) blueberry pie, or a nonspecific berry scent, sometimes with floral notes.
